J-Bar
Aspen's favorite watering hole since 1889, the J-Bar—with its authentic saloon ambiance, lively and casual atmosphere, and wide selection of draft and bottled beer and light fare —continues to attract a diverse mix of locals, tourists and celebrities. Open daily from 11:30 a.m.
Throughout the Hotel Jerome’s rich history, the Jerome Bar or J-Bar as it is locally known, has been one of the town’s most popular gathering spots. From the silver miners of the late 19th century, who would belly up to the bar to celebrate their good fortune to today’s Hollywood stars who celebrate a fortune of another kind, the J-Bar continues to be a place of good
times and good drink.
The J-Bar serves a variety of popular mixed drinks, including its signature J-rita -- a margarita with a splash of Cointreau and orange juice. Another favorite is the J-Bar's spicy Bloody Mary for those drawn out on frosty holiday mornings.
In addition to their favorite libations, guests can enjoy selections from the J-Bar menu that include savory appetizers, sandwiches and lighter fare. The Jerome Burger with cheese, caramelized onions, mushrooms and applewood smoked bacon; warmed Artichoke spinach dip with flatbread; Jerome all natural chicken salad with maytag blue cheese, farm eggs, crisp bacon, granny smith apple, house vinaigrette and ranch dressing; and Twice-pulled cooked pork with barbeque sauce and coleslaw on a house-made onion roll, are but a few of the mouth-watering choices.
The J-Bar’s celebrated drink – the now infamous “Aspen Crud,” is steeped in Aspen and Hotel Jerome history. Like bars across America, the J-Bar was converted to a soda fountain during Prohibition. During WWII, the 10th Mountain Division boarded at the hotel and concocted the famed drink, adding several shots of liquor, usually bourbon, to a rich milkshake blended at the J-Bar fountain – a spirited example American ingenuity!
